Wells Express Host Men's Volleyball Tri-Match

On Saturday, Wells College hosted a men's Volleyball tri-match.

Russell Sage College and SUNY Potsdam came to town so that they could compete against the Express and each other! The Express had just lost at home to the Potsdam Bears last night and looked today to rebound off that loss and secure a few victories today. 

The first match of the day was a rematch from last night as the Express took on the visiting Potsdam bears. The first two sets were very similar for the Express. Each of them saw the Express keeping it close for the first dozen or so pints for either team. Once we got past that mark in each set, the Bears began to pull away. The Bears had a combined 29 kills in the first two sets while the Express had only 19. This led to the Express falling behind 2 sets to 0 to the visiting Bears. The 3rd set was much closer. it was a one-point match all the way up until the Express fell behind 20-19. After that point, the Bears went on a 5-1 run to close out the host team, Wells College, in 3 straight sets. (25-20).

In their second match of the afternoon, the Express took on the visiting Russell Sage College Gators. The Gators came in today with a record of 4-13. the Express were looking to close out their busy weekend with a victory! The Express was a team possessed in the first set. they smothered the visiting Gators with 14 kills and won the first set by a score of 25-15. The Gators were clearly not going to go quietly as the second set was as close as they come. The Express started down 4-1 and then roared back to tie it up at 7. Later in the set, Wells found themselves down 4 pints again by the score of 24-20. They fought their way back to force extra points against the visiting gators! Unfortunately, they dropped the second set by a score of 26-24. In the third and fourth sets, you could tell the Express were done messing around. They put up a combined 29 kills to the Gators 12. Meanwhile, Cooper Colesante, Christain Hahn, Confidence Burrowes, and Riley Mahoney were a brick all at the net and shut down the visiting Russell Sage to win the last two sets and secure the overall victory 3-1. (25-18, 25-16).
