'On This Day' Sleezer Leads Men's Cross Country to Top-5 Finish at LeMoyne

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 2, three years ago in 2017.

The Wells College men's cross country team placed fifth at the LeMoyne College Short-Course Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017. The season-opening meet was contested over a 6-kilometer course that 67 total competitors completed.

Two Wells runners finished in the top-20 and four in the top-40. Overall, seven Express runners competed in the meet, led by Adam Sleezer with a time of 23 minutes to place 17th overall.

Austin Heil was the next finisher for Wells in 24:03 in 25th place. Eli Stone also finished in the top-half of the overall field with a 32nd-place finish in 24:55. Heil, a member of the Wells men's swimming team, and Stone, formerly of the men's soccer team, competed in their first collegiate cross country meet.

The other scorers in the Wells lineup were Tony D'Arpino with a time of 25:18 and Tanner Mingen with a time of 25:29.

John Tolley (27:47) and Bradlee Sherman (30:22) also competed for the Express.
