Spencer Receives Wells College Award For Excellence

AURORA, N.Y. – Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Information and Game Day Operations Griffin Spencer was one of four Wells College employees to receive an Award for Excellence at the institution’s annual Employee Recognition Breakfast on Friday. Spencer is only the second member of the Department of Athletics to receive the campus-wide award (Dan Kane, 2015).

Spencer, who joined the Wells College Department of Athletics in August 2012, is tasked with managing the public relations duties for all 16 NCAA Division III of Wells' varsity sports, including the supervision of the athletics website, social media channels and other publications. In addition, he is charged with managing and coordinating the game day operations for home athletics contests while guiding interns and student work study employees.

In his introduction at the Employee Recognition Breakfast, Wells College President Dr. Jonathan Gibralter remarked that, “[Spencer] has demonstrated a commitment and loyalty to Wells over a short period of time. His knowledge, attentiveness to detail and high expectations has challenged his colleagues to work harder, think creatively and to stay ahead of the game.”

“He is truly an ambassador for Wells as he strives to communicate the value of a Wells College education and experience to many prospective student-athletes, alumnae/i and friends,” concluded Gibralter.

“During his four years as a member of the Department of Athletics administrative team and within his role as the person who oversees the messages communicated about the Express, Griffin has transformed athletics communications and game management into points of pride for Wells College,” cited Director of Athletics Michael Lindberg

The College initiated the Employee Recognition Breakfast eight years ago while the campus-wide Awards for Excellence were added in 2012. Each awardee will have her or his name added to a campus plaque.
