Express Men's Basketball Takes Down Top Seeded Seahawks

Express Men's Basketball Takes Down Top Seeded Seahawks

Saturday afternoon brought the 11th consecutive United East match-up for the Express.

This was an interesting one with the visiting St Mary's. Earlier in the season, St Marys had defeated the Express in overtime in Maryland. Now the Express had a chance for some revenge and to hand the Seahawks their first United East loss of the season.

This contest, right from the jump, did not lack excitement. The first half saw neither team being able to pull away from the other. Jarek Feliz gave the Express a surge on offense in the first half with 14 key points helping the Express secure a 1 point lead (32-31) heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Express offense started going basket for basket with the visiting Seahawks seeing neither team being able to gain a real advantage. Big-time scoring from Ransel Rodriguez who had 15 second-half points, and Don Mays Jr, who had 14 second-half points, kept the Express in it the whole way. As regulation ticked down the Express couldn't knock down a couple of free throws and the Seahawks had a chance to win the game with a last-second shot that they could not get to fall. we were heading for overtime!

Early in overtime, the Express found themselves down 3 points with the clock continuing to tick down. Thanks to Ty McBride and Jarek Feliz, who went a combined 7-9 from the free-throw line, the Express were able to knock off the top-seeded Seahawks at home by a score of 91-85 and put the rest of the United East on notice!
