Men's Lacrosse & Baseball: "On This Day" 5-1-19

"On This Day" is a Wells College Athletics feature designed to look back over the past three seasons when most of our 2020 seniors began play for the Express and what highlights happened to Wells' spring teams on this day on May 1

Men's Lacrosse: May 1, 2019

The Wells College men's lacrosse team had three players recognized on all-conference teams as the North Eastern Athletic Conference announced its all-conference awards and individual honors for the 2019 season. Nathan Ramsey, Quinten Battle, and Cash Lawson were named to the All-NEAC Third Team.

It is the fifth consecutive year that the Express men's lacrosse program has had at least three players earn all-conference recognition.

Quinten Battle, a freshman from Seneca Falls, New York, earned third team honors at attack. He led Wells and ranks eighth in the conference with 32 goals and is second on the team with 39 points. Battle had eight games out of 14 where he scored three goals or more.

Nathan Ramsey, a junior from Phelps, New York, led Wells with 14 assists and 43 points. He earned third team honors at midfield. Ramsey ranked in the top-20 in the NEAC in goals, assists, and points. Ramsey had at least one point in all 14 Wells games, and had multi-point efforts in 13 games.

Cash Lawson, a senior from Hilton, New York, earned third team honors at short-stick defensive midfield. Lawson played in a short-stick role for most of the year and also took the most faceoffs for the Express this season. He led Wells with 57 ground balls and added 13 caused turnovers. He had career highs with six goals, seven assists, and 13 points. Lawson earned the second all-conference honor of his career as he was a third team selection at defense in 2017.

Baseball: May 1, 2019

The Wells College baseball team rallied with six unanswered runs to beat Cazenovia College with a 6-1 victory on Wednesday, May 1 at the Wells Turf Field.

Cazenovia got its only run of the game on a solo homer in the top of the first and from there the pitching of Zach Kemp, Alexander Mott and Jared Strait held the Wildcats in check.

Wells broke through with four runs in the third on six hits. After a ground out to start the inning, four consecutive singles from Jordan VanHerpe, Mark Yorkey, Dylan Nolan, and Tyler Young loaded the bases and VanHerpe scored on a wild pitch. Tanner Dunkel grounded into a force out to bring in Yorkey, and A.J. Nesci followed with a two-out, two-run single to right after Dunkel stole second.

Wells added a pair of runs in the fifth on a two-run double to left field by Anthony Aumick. It was the 100th hit of the Wells career for Aumick. He is the second player to reach that milestone in the three-year history of the Wells program.

Kemp pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts. He was the winning pitcher and is 4-4 on the season. Mott and Strait each pitched a scoreless inning. Strait struck out two batters in the seventh. Nolan and Aumick each had two hits.
