Men’s Volleyball Drops Game 3-1 at Keuka

Keuka Park, N.Y.– Brannon Perdicho (Victor, N.Y.) became the third person in team history to surpass the 500 kill threshold on Wednesday as the Wells College men's volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Keuka. The Express fall to 10-18 overall and to 6-9 within the conference – Keuka moves to 14-9 (9-6 NEAC).
Wells jumped out ahead taking the first set 25-22 but Keuka was able to rally, taking the next three straight sets with the scores 25-20, 25-22, and 25-20, respectively. Perdicho led the team by posting 21 kills, surpassing his own first place record of kills in a four set game. Liam Kaylor (Falls Church, Va.) added 16 kills for the Express, hitting .273 at the net.
The Express took the first set from the Wolfpack hitting .385 and tallying 14 kills. The set started off back and forth with points until Wells was able to go on a 4-1 run off of a Jonathan Haines (Wellington, Fla.) kill, which gave the Express enough of a lead to take the set. The Wolfpack did come back to bring the score within one, at 19-18, off a Wells attack error. The Express went on to close the game by scoring five of their last 6 points off of kills, two by Kaylor, one from Perdicho, one from senior J.J. Podczasy (Macungie, Pa.) and the game winner from senior Derek Nipps (Turnersville, N.J). Nipps also tallied 12 assists in the set.
Keuka led the entirety of the third set, leading by as much at seven points. The Express battled back at the end of the game, cutting the Wolfpack lead to two on a Perdicho kill, bringing the score to 20-22. The two teams battled back and forth and with the Express down 22-24, a Keuka timeout brought a decisive kill to take the set.
The fourth set was a battle for both teams, with the Express starting off the game leading 7-6 and then going on a 6-2 run, with the Wolfpack committing three attack errors and one service error. Keuka responded with a 8-2 run and then a ball handling error by them evened the score out at 15-15. A Kaylor kill and ace followed by a kill by John Farruggia (New Hartford, N.Y.) giving the Express an 18-15 lead. Following a Keuka timeout, the home team went on to score seven straight points before Wells would score again but Keuka held on, winning the set 25-20.
Keuka was led at the net with 16 kills from Connor Hinman while Cooper Lyon racked up an impressive 21 digs. As a team, Keuka registered 7 service aces and 21 block assists at the net.
