Burrowes, McCrae Send High-Flying Express to 3-0 Victory Over Visiting Houghton

The Wells College Express Men's Volleyball team soared to new heights on Wednesday night, using a mixture of booming serves and stunning spikes to cruise to a 3-0 victory over a scrappy Houghton squad.

At the center of all the action were Wells standouts Confidence Burrowes and Billy McCrae, who spent the majority of the night frustrating the Highlanders blockers with a mix of powerful serves and excellent aerial combat around the net.

Burrowes in particular found numerous different ways to land the ball on Houghton's court time and time again, striking 2 service aces and burying fellow Express standout Mason Moon's sets into the heart of the Highlander defense to the tune of a game-high 8 kills. Burrowes ended with a kill percentage of .667, an extremely noteworthy mark, and one that was also mirrored by the other Express attackers who followed a smiliar trend by having an amazing hitting night.

One of those efficient Express attackers was Billy McCrae who equaled Burrowes' kill number with 8 of his own slams, hitting a kill percentage of .615 and punishing the Highlanders on various long receptions that he guided directly back to the hardwood.

Senior captain Connor Garvey also had an explosive performance, nailing 6 kills and stifling the Houghton spikes on various seperate occasions as he walled up for 2 strong solo blocks and 1 block assist.

The Express as a whole drilled 34 kills on 77 attempts, only recording 6 errors and logging a kill percentage of .364.

Wednesday was also a night of incredible career achievements for the Wells Men's Volleyball team, who saw Harrison Keena reach his 200th career kill during a huge Wells run in the second set. Keena rocketed a Jacob Sehn set off the outstretched arms of a Highlander blocker to hit the superb milestone. Express setter Mason Moon also put in 27 assists on the night, boosting his career total to 973 - 27 shy of the 1,000 assist mark.

You can follow Mason in his quest to reach 1,000 as the Express travel to St. Vincent College on Thursday, March 14th to participate in a tri-match against St. Vincent and Bethany College.
