Men's Volleyball Earns NEAC Semifinal Win
The Wells College men's volleyball team won its North Eastern Athletic Conference semifinal playoff match in four sets over SUNY Poly on Saturday, April 14 at Lancaster, Pa. Set scores were 29-27, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21 in favor of the Express. Wells advances to the NEAC Championship match Sunday at 1 p.m. against Lancaster Bible College.
Wells went to extra points to take the opening game. The Express took a 23-20 lead, but SUNY Poly scored the next three points. Wells had five match points but Poly defended them all. On the sixth opportunity to close out the set, an attack error by Poly gave Wells a 29-27 win.
The Wildcats answered back and took the second set.
Wells hit .393 in the third set and won it 25-22. Wells had 15 kills and four errors in the set. The Express used an 8-3 run in the middle of the set to claim a 20-14 lead.
In the fourth set, Wells scored five points in a row to take a 17-13 lead. Wells won the final three points of the set and took it 25-21.
Robert Patzer and Brannon Perdicho each had 15 kills for Wells. Caden O'Loughlin had 12 kills and hit .400 in the match. Josh Undari had 46 assists. Patzer had 10 digs and Scott Litvin had nine digs. Jonathan Haines had six block assists and Robert Patzer had five block assists. Kevin Batmunkh served three aces.
Wells is 21-7 on the season. SUNY Poly finished the year with a 14-15 record.
It is the second year in a row that Wells will play for a conference title. In last year's NEAC final, Wells fell in four sets against Penn State Altoona. The Express met Lancaster Bible College in last year's semifinal round, and Wells won in five sets. Earlier this season at LBC, the Chargers beat Wells in four sets.
