Men's Volleyball Drops NEAC Contest vs. Medaille

MARCY, N.Y. – For the third time this season, the Wells College men's volleyball team posted a 3-0 loss to Medaille College. Following Sunday's match on the campus of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Wells evens their North Eastern Athletic Conference record at 5-5 while falling to 8-16 overall on the season.

Medaille (11-10, 8-1 NEAC), currently ranked second in the conference, secured the straight set victory over Wells via scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-22. Wells currently owns the fourth and final spot in the upcoming NEAC tournament but will have to play well against Keuka, Lancaster Bible and Penn St.-Altoona in the final NEAC Crossover Weekend next Friday and Saturday to maintain a playoff position.

In the match, Wells recorded only 24 kills while Medaille hit an impressive .349 after posting 46 kills on 86 total swings. Freshman Brannon Perdicho (Victor, N.Y.) struck for 10 kills while freshman Scott Litvin (Sayville, N.Y.) set up 19 of his team's kills. Defensively, libero Jack Battumur (Denver, Colo.) secured seven digs.

Medaille was led by Calvin Crosby and his 10 kills. David Riggsby set up 34 assists for the Mavericks while David Hill posted 12 digs defensively. In a dominating second set victory over Wells, the Mavericks hammered home 17 kills en route to a 25-15 middle set score. The Express were only able to record four kills in the second set, but rebounded to post nine in the third and final set.

The Express will travel to Lancaster Bible College this Friday, Mar. 20 as they face-off against the host Chargers at 8 p.m. to begin the final weekend of NEAC Crossover play. Saturday, the Express will play Keuka and Penn St.-Altoona, two schools battling for playoff position, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
