Men's Volleyball Halves Saturday Slate At SUNY Poly

MARCY, N.Y. – The Wells College men's volleyball team posted a split for the second straight day, rallying to defeat D'Youville 3-1 before losing in straight sets to SUNY Poly on the latter's campus. The Express even their overall record at 2-2 following the non-league weekend contests.

Wells lost the first set against D'Youville 25-19 but rattled off three-straight set victories via scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19. The Express, trailing by as much as 7-1 in the second set against the Spartans, took advantage of two D'Youville rotation mistakes and rallied to capture the next three sets.

Freshman Brannon Perdicho (Victor, N.Y.) continued his strong streak of contests, hammering home 17 kills on 32 attacks for a .375 hitting percentage. He picked up a double-double for Wells, tying with junior John Farruggia (West Winfield, N.Y.) for the team lead with 13 digs defensively. Sophomore Alex Battey (Palmdale, Calif.) posted 13 kills on 20 swings, committing only three errors for a team-best .500 hitting percentage.

First year setter Scott Litvin (Sayville, N.Y.) had an outstanding day as the team's main ball distributor, assisting 42 of his team's 49 kills to record the third-best single game assist total in team history. The team's 49 kills are the fifth-most in program history and the squad's 48 cumulative assists is third all-time.

Against SUNY Poly, a North Eastern Athletic Conference rival, the Wells offense as unable to find any rhythm as the host Wildcats defeated Wells 25-20, 25-22 and 25-18. Perdicho and Farruggia each racked up eight kills while Litvin set up 26 of his team's 29 kills. Defensively, freshman Jack Battumur (Denver, Colo.) scooped 12 digs.

Wells will have another shot at SUNY Poly as the Express host the Wildcats and Penn St.-Behrend in a three-team event at the Farenthold Athletic Wing Saturday, Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. Live Video and Live Statistics for all three matches will be available at Wells-Express.com.
