No. 7 Men’s Volleyball Team’s Home Opener Ends in Sweep

The No. 7 Wells College men's volleyball team swept the visiting College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday, Feb. 8. The match was the first conference match for either team in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

The Express took the first set by a 25-10 score and followed that with a 25-18 second-set victory before closing the match with a third-set win of 25-21.

Robert Patzer had three aces in his first and only set of the day as he and current NEAC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week Caden O'Loughlin rested for most of today's match in preparation of tomorrow's doubleheader.

Kevin Batmunkh anchored the defense with a team-high eight digs, while Justin Williams registered four blocks (two solo).

On the offensive end, Christian Hahn and Joe Zimmerman each recorded five kills with Zimmerman finishing with a hitting percentage of .571.

The team readies for the unveiling of its championship banner tomorrow morning at 11:45 a.m. recognizing the team's appearance in the Elite Eight of the NCAA D-III 2019 Tournament.

A 12 p.m. match against visiting SUNY Poly follows and the Express wraps up the day with a 4 p.m. non-conference match with Elmira.
