Men’s Volleyball Defeats Hilbert, Falls To D’Youville In Five

MARCY, N.Y. – The Wells College men's volleyball team posted a 3-1 victory over Hilbert College on Saturday before falling in five sets to D'Youville College on the campus of the SUNY Institute of Technology. Wells concludes the afternoon with an 8-15 record alongside a 5-4 mark in league play. D'Youville remains undefeated in NEAC play (8-0) while Hilbert falls to 1-18 overall on the season.

The Express dispatched Hilbert in four sets via scores of 25-14, 25-15, 20-25 and 25-17. Wells posted their third five set loss of the year in the afternoon's final match, losing 25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 17-25 and 11-15. The Spartans, who only had seven players at their disposal in the match, now boast three NEAC victories when forcing five sets against their opponent.

Against the Hawks, Wells was led by sophomore Alex Battey (Palmdale, Calif.) and his 11 kills on only 13 swings, committing only one attacking error. Freshman Brannon Perdicho (Victor, N.Y.) posted eight kills of his own while junior J.J. Podczasy (Macungie, Pa.) posted eight kills on 18 errorless attacks. Freshman Scott Litvin (Sayville, N.Y.) posted 21 assists while sophomore Liam Kaylor (Falls Church, Va.) notched 12 helpers of his own. Three different Wells players posted seven digs.

Perdicho set a career-high mark in kills against D'Youville, registering 19 while hitting .457 on the afternoon to tie the all-time single match record for kills. With 11 digs, Perdicho also compiled his third double-double of the year. Junior John Farruggia (West Winfield, N.Y.) posted 12 while Battey chipped in 11 of his own. Litvin and Kaylor posted 27 and 20 assists, respectively, while libero Jack Battumur (Denver, Colo.) recorded 16 digs.

The Express will face-off against Medaille at high noon on the campus of the SUNY Institute of Technology Sunday, Mar. 15. The Mavericks have shut out the Express 3-0 in back-to-back matchups this season.
