Saturday Split For Men's Volleyball At Poly Invite

The Wells College men's volleyball team wrapped up a four-match weekend with a win and a loss Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by SUNY Poly. Wells started the second day of matches with a four-set win over Geneva College, but dropped the final match of the weekend in four sets to Nazareth College. Wells went 3-1 over four matches at Poly, and stands at 4-2 overall this season. Wells will head to Nazareth for matches Friday and Saturday Feb. 1-2 against Hiram, Elms, and Thiel.

Wells 3, Geneva 1

The Express won by set scores of 25-13, 23-25, 27-25, 25-19. In the pivotal third set, Geneva had three consecutive set points with a 24-21 lead, but Wells won six of the final seven points and took a two sets to one lead. Ryan Turner, Josh Undari, and Robert Patzer all had kills in that stretch.

Wells limited Geneva to an .083 hitting percentage with 35 kills and 26 errors. Wells hit at .174 with 47 kills and 26 errors. Josh Undari served the hitters with 35 assists, and added four kills of his own to go with a service ace, two block assists, and four digs.

Robert Patzer was the leading hitter for the Express with 16 kills and Caden O'Loughlin had 10 kills and 10 digs. Cooper Colesante had a solo block and two block assists.

Nazareth 3, Wells 1

The Express dropped a four-set match to Nazareth by scores of 28-26, 25-18, 22-25, 25-16 in favor of the Golden Flyers. The first set was tied seven times as the set reached its conclusion, but Nazareth took the final two points and captured the set in extra points.

Nazareth out-hit Wells with a .405 hitting percentage to a .273 rate for the Express. Caden O'Loughlin led Wells with 14 kills, and Joe Zimmerman and Robert Patzer had 10 kills each. Josh Undari had 40 assists and two service aces. Patzer and Liam Kaylor led Wells with nine digs each.
