Record-Setting Match Highlights Men's Volleyball Wins

 

The Wells College men's volleyball team completed a perfect three-match weekend with a pair of victories Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Nazareth College Invitational. Wells defeated Elms College in four sets and Thiel College in five sets. The Express are 7-2 on the year, and will play at St. John Fisher on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.

Wells 3, Elms 1

Set scores were 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23. Wells hit .309 in the match including .480 in the opening set with 16 kills and four errors. Caden O'Loughlin had 31 kills and a .458 hitting percentage. His 31 kills is a career-best total and is a single-match record for any Wells player.

Robert Patzer had 11 kills and Josh Undari had 55 assists. Patzer led Wells with 10 digs, and Undari and O'Loughlin had eight digs each. Ryan Turner had three block assists and Undari had one solo block and two block assists.

Wells 3, Thiel 2

Wells rallied to take the final two sets and pick up the win. Set scores were 25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 25-18, 16-14.

The Express hit .270 in the match and Josh Undari had 59 assists on 67 Wells kills. Four players had double-figures in kills. Caden O'Loughlin had 23, Robert Patzer and Justin Williams had 13 kills each, and Ryan Turner had 12. Patzer led Wells with 13 digs and O'Loughlin had 12. O'Loughlin and Joe Zimmerman each served two aces. Patzer had four solo blocks.

In the decisive fifth set, Thiel had an 11-9 lead, but Wells won the next four points on kills from Turner, Williams, and O'Loughlin and a hitting error by Thiel. Wells had match points at 14-13 and 15-14 and closed out the match with a kill and an ace from O'Loughlin.
