The No. 3 Wells College men's volleyball team needed just seven sets to improve their win streak to six games for the 2020 season after the first day of the Cardinal Invite at St. John Fisher College on Friday, Jan. 17. The set score of 25-18 was a common one as those numbers prevailed in five of the seven sets.
Wells took the opening match by sweeping Elmira by 25-18 in the first two sets and 25-21 in the third set. The Express lost their opening set to host St. John Fisher by 18-25, but won the next three. The second set was 25-15, while the final two sets finished at 25-18.
Caden O'Loughlin led the team in kills in both contests with a dozen against Elmira and 16 against the Cardinals. Justin Williams had team-highs in blocks in both matches and Josh Undari twice led the team in assists.
Robert Patzer had a team-high three aces against Elmira, while O'Loughlin had a pair against the Cardinals. Patzer was the team leader in digs with seven against Elmira, while Joe Zimmerman had a team-high eight against St. John Fisher.
The Express wrap up the Cardinal Invite with an 11 a.m. match against Johnson and Wales tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 18.
