Garvey Records 600th Career Kill in Tight Loss to Thiel

Garvey Records 600th Career Kill in Tight Loss to Thiel

Another night, another career milestone for a standout member of the Wells College men's volleyball team.

Senior captain Connor Garvey was tonight's record-setter, as he slammed down a game-high 9 kills in a 3-0 loss against league rival Thiel. The 8th of those wonderful attacks was the one that garnered Garvey his 600th career kill, an amazing career milestone and one that launches him into the Express record books as he now ranks 5th all-time in career kills.

Garvey also managed to reach 200 kills this season, another impressive mark that barely eluded him the past two seasons. This year, Garvey managed to get over the hump and is in the midst of a great senior season.

Despite the loss, Garvey and the Express kept it close, competing well in each set but succumbing to some early-set jitters. In sets 2 & 3, the hosts Thiel managed to get out to a quick 8-3 lead over the Express before play evened out for the rest of each respective set. Without these early Tomcat runs, the Express might have been able to steal some sets and put themselves in great position for a victory.

What truly kept the Express in the match was some amazing defensive play from the always-stalwart Jacob Sehn, who was an absolute anchor on defense, recording a game-high 14 digs and keeping countless rallies alive.

Garvey also put in the work on defense, stymieing 9 Tomcat attacks, good for the second-most digs in the match behind fellow stopper Sehn.

Sophomore setter Mason Moon also added 7 digs in what was an all-around inspiring defensive showing for the Express.

The Express have a quick turnaround this week, as they get a single day's rest before hitting the road again on Friday for a matchup with another AMCC rival in Penn St. - Altoona.
