Men's Volleyball Players Claim NEAC Weekly Honors
The North Eastern Athletic Conference honored two Wells College men's volleyball athletes as its Student-Athlete of the Week selections for the week ending Feb. 24. Caden O'Loughlin was the NEAC Player of the Week and Ryan Turner was the NEAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Wells split a pair of matches on Saturday, falling in five sets to the top-ranked team in the nation, Springfield College, then winning in five sets against Rivier University.
O'Loughlin was named the NEAC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time this season after totaling 43 kills. The junior outside hitter began the weekend with 24 kills and 11 digs in a five-set loss to Springfield. He also added 19 kills and 10 digs in a 3-2 win against Rivier. O'Loughlin finished the week averaging 4.30 kills per set with a .283 hitting percentage, four assists, 10 digs, and two blocks. O'Loughlin has been honored four times in total after earning the defensive player of the week award on two occasions earlier this season.
Turner was selected as the NEAC Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week with 17 digs and four blocks over two matches on Saturday. Turner had six digs and one solo block in the match against Springfield before wrapping up the day with 11 digs and three total blocks in a win over Rivier. In addition to his defensive numbers, Turned contributed 12 kills, one assist and one service ace.
Wells is in action Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Daemen College, and the Express will host a six-team tournament Friday and Saturday at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
