Women's Basketball Defeated By St. John Fisher, 86-50

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Wells College women's basketball team was defeated by St. John Fisher College on Friday, dropping the first game of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational by an 86-50 score. Wells falls to 3-2 overall on the season while St. John Fisher, the reigning Empire 8 Conference champions, remains undefeated in three games.

Junior Ashida Cooper (Cooperstown, N.Y.) and senior Holli Erkson (Cooperstown, N.Y.) each scored nine points in the loss, leading the team offensively. Cooper led the way with five total rebounds and four steals. As a team, Wells shot only 31.9% from the floor (15-for-47) while committing 26 turnovers in 40 minutes.

St. John Fisher led from start to finish, dominating the Express with an early 9-0 run and shooting over 55% from the floor (35-for-63) in the game. An Erkson layup with 4:53 left in the first quarter brought Wells to within five points, but the Cardinals would eventually build a game-high 39 point lead with 54 seconds remaining in regulation time.

Mary Kate Cusack scored 20 points for St. John Fisher, shooting 8-for-9 from the floor, while Caroline Robertson charged off the bench to provide 13 points and five rebounds in only 19 minutes of action. Scoring 43 points in each half, the Cardinals posted an impressive 65.4% field goal percentage in the final 20 minutes of play.

Wells will take on Union this Saturday, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m. to conclude the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational, hosted by St. John Fisher.
