Women’s Basketball Team Plays Strong at Each Quarter’s End

The Wells College women's basketball team needed time to slow its opposition, but after the pace settled the Express looked good even though they dropped a 62-32 contest to visiting SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Jan. 18.

In three of the four quarters, the Fighting Tigers began with either 7-0 or 7-2 opening-quarter runs. In the other quarter, it was an 11-2 run. Collectively, those runs of the early going of each quarter accumulated to 32-6 total. Taking away those totals from each team, the remaining points of the teams could only be separated by one score.

Maritza Scharoun pulled down a season-high 15 boards in leading the Express in rebounds for the seventh time this season.

The bulk of the Express' points came from Lorissa Parks and Jordan Jacobs with each netting double-digit totals. Parks led the team with 11 while Jacobs added 10, with the latter adding a team-high three steals.

Scharoun, Parks and Jacobs each added a pair of assists to go with their team-leading totals.

The women's team next travels to Keuka College for an 8 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
