Fast Start Carries SUNY Poly Over Women's Basketball

The Wells College women's basketball team went on the road and took on SUNY Polytechnic Institute, with SUNY Poly winning 70-50 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game on Saturday, Dec. 3. SUNY Poly is the defending conference champion and was picked first by conference coaches in the preseason poll.

The host Wildcats led 28-12 after the first quarter and went on to the victory. Wells is 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the NEAC. SUNY Poly is 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Shelby Medovich was the leading scorer for Wells with 22 points, which matched her career-high scoring game of 22 points in the season-opener against Alfred.

Ashida Cooper scored 16. Kamarie Maturine led Wells with five rebounds. Cooper's 16-point effort also included four steals, three assists and four rebounds.

Wells shot successfully from the free-throw line, with 14 makes in 17 attempts.

The Express is back in action Sunday, Dec. 4 at SUNY Cobleskill at noon.
