Winning Ways Continue For Women's Basketball

The Wells College women's basketball team capped a perfect weekend road trip with a 63-42 victory at Wilson College on Sunday, Feb. 12. For the second game in a row, a dominant performance in the second quarter keyed the win for Wells.

Wells outscored Wilson 22-5 in the second quarter. This followed Saturday's game at Gallaudet University, in which Wells outscored Gallaudet 26-10 in the second quarter.

Wells moved back over .500 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play and owns an 8-7 conference record. Wells is 9-11 overall. Wilson is 5-19 overall and 2-17 in the NEAC.

Kamarie Maturine had a career-high 19 points and added 11 rebounds for the Express. She also blocked two shots and was 5-for-7 at the foul line. Ashida Cooper scored 24 points and had eight rebounds with five steals.

Wells trailed 11-9 late in the first quarter, but scored the final four points of the first and started the second with an 18-1 run to take control. Wells built its largest lead of 30 points with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Express continues NEAC play with a Wednesday game at 5 p.m. at Morrisville State College.
