Women's Basketball Falls To Cazenovia

The Wells College women's basketball team played a strong first quarter but eventually fell to visiting Cazenovia College 71-50 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Schwartz Athletic Center.

Wells held a 13-4 lead after the opening quarter before Cazenovia found its offensive touch and scored 52 points over the second and third quarters to take a commanding lead.

The Wells defense held Cazenovia without a basket until 7:21 remaining in the second quarter. That layup sparked an 18-4 run for the Wildcats. Cazenovia led 32-30 at halftime.

Carley Ryan scored 19 points for Wells and Shelby Medovich added 17 points.

Miranda Mingen led Wells with 10 rebounds and Jordan Jacobs added nine rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals. Yanna Ososkalo led Wells with four assists.

Wells was 7-for-8 at the free-throw line in the game.

In the previous meeting between the teams this season, Wells won 50-46 at Cazenovia on Dec. 2.

Wells is 2-10 overall and 1-3 in the NEAC. Cazenovia is 4-6 overall and also 1-3 in the conference.

Wells continues NEAC play this weekend with a pair of road games. The Express will play Saturday, Jan. 13 at Gallaudet University and Sunday, Jan. 14 at Penn State Abington.
