Women's Basketball Edged By D'Youville

The Wells College women's basketball team opened its 2018-19 season with a home game Saturday, Nov. 10 and fell by a score of 74-69 against D'Youville College. Carley Ryan scored 33 points and Shelby Medovich added 20 points for the Express.

Wells held a 17-14 lead after the first quarter as Medovich scored nine in the opening quarter on four made field goals. Wells was 7-for-11 from the floor in the second quarter and built a 10-point lead with 6:31 remaining in the second at 26-16 following consecutive baskets from Carley Ryan. D'Youville answered with a spurt and Wells held a 38-36 lead at halftime.

D'Youville outscored Wells 22-15 in the third quarter and built its largest lead of 11 points in the fourth quarter. The Spartans held on for a five-point win.

Ryan and Medovich had double-doubles in the game. In addition to her 33 points, Ryan pulled down 10 rebounds and had five assists. Medovich had a team-best 11 rebounds to go with her 20 points. Diamonne Harris scored seven points.

Diamonne Harris, Kaleigh Spencer, and Lorissa Parks made their collegiate debuts for Wells.

Wells continues its season with a Tuesday, Nov. 13 game at Alfred State at 5:30 p.m.
