Cazenovia Offense Thwarts Women's Basketball Comeback

The Wells College women's basketball team made a spirited charge in the second half, but was outdone by a hot-shooting Cazenovia team as the host Wildcats defeated Wells 84-65 on Wednesday, Jan. 30. The Wildcats made 12 3-pointers in the game and shot 46 percent from the field and 91 percent at the foul line.

Wells trailed 45-26 at halftime, but the Express dominated the third quarter and got back into the contest. In the third quarter, Wells outscored Cazenovia 23-11. Shelby Medovich had 11 points in the surge and Carley Ryan scored seven in the quarter.

Wells narrowed the deficit to single digits after trailing by 23 points in the third quarter. A jumper from Jordan Jacobs early in the fourth brought Wells within five at 56-51, but Cazenovia answered with a 17-5 run to regain control of the contest.

Ryan led Wells with 33 points as she connected on six shots from behind the arc. Medovich had 11 points and a team-best eight rebounds. The Express had a 43-40 rebounding advantage in the game.

Wells continues a stretch of road games with a Saturday, Feb. 2 game at Saint Elizabeth at 1 p.m.
