Caz Wins Back-And-Forth Game Over Wells Men's Basketball

The Wells College men's basketball team was edged 73-71 by Cazenovia College on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 9 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. The North Eastern Athletic Conference contest included six ties and seven lead changes.

Wells built its largest lead of the game, an eight-point margin, midway through the second half. A nine-point run by the Express included 3-pointers from Rich Ross and Ty McBride, a free throw by Dylan Frost and a layup by Jalen Tribble and put Wells ahead 61-53.

Cazenovia responded with a 12-point run later in the half to take a 67-63 lead with four minutes left and held the lead the rest of the way. Cazenovia had a chance to put the game away at the free-throw line with 10 seconds remaining but missed both shots. A long-range 3-pointer from Wells at the buzzer was off the mark and the Wildcats got the two-point victory.

Ross finished with 22 points for Wells. Dylan Frost had 13 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Ty McBride, a freshman guard who joined the team for the second half of the season, scored 10 points in his Wells debut. The Express shot 9-for-27 from behind the 3-point line.

Cazenovia is 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the NEAC. Wells is 2-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Wells continues NEAC play this weekend with road games Saturday at Penn College and Sunday at Penn State Berks.
