On Friday night, the Wells College men's basketball team hosted the Houghton Highlanders for a non-conference match-up. The Express handled the Highlanders, 84--71.
The Express jumped out to a 7-0 lead but the Highlanders came right back and the game ended up being tied at 11 after 5 minutes of play. Ransel Rodriguez, Ivan Oduro-Dompreh, and Terrance Clayton-Murphy combined for 20 of the 47 points scored by the Express in the first half. Each team had a chance to extend their lead in the first half and the Express turning the ball over 12 times wasn't helping their cause. Wells went into halftime with a small lead, 47-44.
In the second half, once again, Terrance Clayton-Murphy shined on offense with 14 points. Ty McBride and Ransel Rodriguez each assisted on 2 baskets to help the Express build a lead. Wells College left 11 points at the free throw line shooting a meager 47.6% (10-21) on the day. Down the stretch, however, they were able to create defensive stops and knock down a few free throws to seal this victory, 84-71.
