Men's Basketball Takes OT Thriller Against Keuka
The Wells College men's basketball team closed the last two and a half minutes of overtime by outscoring Keuka College 9-2 and it helped the Express to a 79-76 overtime victory over the visiting Wolves on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Schwartz Center.
Wells remains tied atop the North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division standings with a 10-2 conference record, and the Express is 13-6 overall. Keuka fell to 3-14 overall and 3-9 in the NEAC.
Wells trailed 74-70 in overtime, but answered with a 3-pointer from Anthony Nesci, a jumper from the wing from James Feocco and a driving layup by Vaughndell Brantley. Rich Ross made two free throws with 18 seconds left in OT to seal the victory.
Ross led a balanced Wells scoring attack with 20 points. He was one of five Express players to score in double-figures. Chris Courtney had 14 points and Tyree Fisher scored 12. Feocco added 11 and Ayodele Akinmola had 10 points. Feocco led Wells with 11 rebounds and Ross had nine rebounds.
Wells had 10 steals in the game, with five of those by Feocco.
There were nine ties and 12 lead changes in the back-and-forth game. Keuka's largest lead was four points, with the last of those advantages coming in overtime. Wells held a nine-point lead early in the second half before Keuka came back and eventually sent the game to overtime.
With a 13-6 record, Wells is tied for the best record in program history through the first 19 games of any season, matching the 2008-09 team that finished 21-7.
Wells has a Saturday home game against Cazenovia College at 3 p.m. and a Sunday home game against Morrisville State College at 2 p.m.
