The Wells College men's basketball team got out of the gate quick and never looked back in a 64-59 victory over visiting Penn State-Berks on Friday, Feb. 21.
It was the Express' second win in its last four starts and the team relied on the same recipe that proved successful against Cazenovia with a quick start and never trailing in the contest.
It took Wells 10 minutes to build its first double-digit lead at 20-10 after a Jalen Tribble layup. The Express led by as much as 14 in the first before settling on a 12-point lead at the break. The Nittany Lions did their best to catch up in the second half and actually got within a point twice at 53-52 and 60-59 late in the second, but each time Tribble responded for the Express.
Tribble recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Isiah McPherson led the team in scoring with 17 and just missed a double-double with nine boards, while Zach D'Arpino matched Tribble with 13 points of his own.
Anthony Nesci contributed a team-high five assists in the win. Nesci and Jalen Feliz each added a half-dozen points, while four points came from both Keian Montero and Cameron Boon. Quentin Battle rounded out the Wells scorers with a free throw.
The men's basketball team will pay tribute to its departing players on Saturday, Feb. 22 against visiting Penn College with a 1 p.m. start.
