The Wells College men's basketball team came close to having its best come-from-behind game of the season, but the final minute of play in a one-score game would favor the visiting Wolves on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Keuka College came out of the gate hot and by the midpoint of the first half they built more than a double-digit lead in doubling the Express at 25-10. Wells would trail by as many as 16 in the latter stages of the first, but started to rally and found themselves trailing by nine at the break at 44-35.
The Express came close to taking the lead early in the second and pulled even at 49 apiece five minutes into the second, but just couldn't get over the hump. Down just a single score in the final minute at 80-77, the last 60 seconds favored the visitors as they tacked on five more for an 85-77 victory over Wells.
Wells had four double-digit scorers that included Ty McBride's team-high 17, followed by 15 from Keian Montero and 11 each from Izaiah McPherson and Jalen Feliz. McBride was the team's hottest shooter after going 6-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
McPherson and Jalen Tribble each recorded a team-high five rebounds, while Montero added four assists.
The men's basketball team takes to the road for their next game at Keuka on Wednesday, Feb. 12 with a 5 p.m. start.
