Men’s Basketball Team Takes Terriers to the Wire

The Wells College men's basketball team opened its season in the 2019 Finger Lakes Classic Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 9.

In a back-and-forth affair, the Express dug itself out of a double-digit deficit with a chance to tie the game at 69 points in the final minute. The tying shot went off the rim and into the hands of the opposition as the Terriers added a pair of foul shots in the dying seconds to beat Wells 71-67.

After having the lead for most of the first half that included a late three-point lead at 33-30, the game may have well been decided in the final three minutes of the first half when the Terriers' lat half attack resulted in an 8-1 scoring advantage to take a 38-34 edge into the break. Aside from the pair of free throws by Hiram at the game's end, Wells held a scoring edge in the second and played strong ball in the game's last five minutes with an impressive rally led by an aggressive defense.

Jalen Tribble led Wells with 26 points and seven rebounds. Ty McBride added 17 points and a half-dozen assists. The Express got 15 points from its bench with eight coming from Matt Burg.

The men's basketball team will complete play in the 2019 Finger Lakes Classic Tournament with a game against Cabrini University on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m.
