Men’s Basketball Team Carries Half Time Lead to Victory

The Wells College men's basketball team never trailed in a road contest at Cazenovia College on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

The Express built a nine-point lead at the break and then held on in the second half to secure a 71-65 win. Keian Montero's layup gave the Express its biggest lead about a dozen minutes into the second half at 55-45, but the Wildcats came close twice to taking their first lead of the game.

In the game's final four minutes, Cazenovia pulled to within one point at 59-58 until Anthony Nesci restored the Express' three-point lead. The Wildcats' final push came when they got within one point for the last time at 61-60 after Izaiah McPherson got the next score for Wells that propelled the Express to eight of the game's final 13 points for the win.

Ty McBride led the Express with 20 points, but Nesci had the team's hottest hand after shooting 50 percent from the field while recording 18 points and a team-high three steals.

Jalen Feliz led the team in rebounds with nine with McPherson not far behind with eight. McPherson finished the contest as Wells' third double-digit scorer with 11.

The men's basketball team next travels to Penn State Abington on Saturday, Feb. 15 for a 1 p.m. contest.
