Men’s Basketball Team Starts Hot Against Cabrini

The Wells College men's basketball team appeared poised for victory in their final game of the 2019 Finger Lakes Classic against Cabrini University on Sunday, Nov. 10.

The Express came flying out of the gate and never trailed during the first half while building a 30-26 lead at the break. About nine minutes into the contest, an Anthony Nesci three gave Wells an 11-point lead. The Express would lead by as many as a dozen with six minutes left in the first before the visiting Cavaliers closed the gap at halftime.

The second half and game were ultimately decided from beyond the arc. After the Cavaliers shot just 1-for-10 in threes in the first half, they dropped nine in the second at over 50 percent. Those additional 27 points from threes factored big in the Terriers' rally to beat Wells by 76-60.

Jalen Tribble was selected to the All-Classic Team after scoring a dozen against Cabrini and getting 26 the previous day against Hiram. Tribble grabbed seven boards in each game as the team's top rebounder in both games.

Wells got 40 points from its starters that included 11 from Ty McBride, nine from Izaiah McPherson, five from Zach D'Arpino and three from Jahlil Nougues. Nesci led the team in bench points with eight with seven coming from Quentin Battle.

Joining Tribble on the All-Classic Team was James Barnes (Keuka College), Sherman Dean (Hiram), D.J. Smith and Voshon Mack, with the latter two from Cabrini. The Classic MVP went to Hiram's Jalen Kirksey.

The men's basketball team heads to Rochester on Tuesday, Nov. 12 to take on the Rochester Institute of Technology at 7 p.m.
