Men’s Basketball Team Falls to RIT
The Wells College men's basketball team dominated host Rochester Institute of Technology for most of the first half before the Tigers rallied in the second to beat the Express by 79-70 on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Wells came out of the gate with a hot start in building a pair of nine-point leads in the first half. With a 24-15 lead, the Tigers closed out the opening half with a 12-4 run to get within a point of Wells with the Express leading 28-27 at the break.
R.I.T. sank a three to begin the second half for its first lead since the opening minutes of the game. The Express trailed for most of the first nine minutes of the second until a Ty McBride three put the Express ahead 52-51. McBride would extend Wells' lead to three at 56-53 before the Tigers rallied.
The difference in the game came from beyond the arc in the second with each team attempting 15 threes. The Tigers got 30 points from its threes in the second at a shooting percentage near 68 percent, while Wells collected just a dozen points from its shots from three-point land in the second.
McBride got 11 of his 16 points in the second while leading the Express back twice, but Jalen Tribble was Wells' biggest threat with a double-double from a team-high 26 points and 10 boards. Tribble scored 13 points in each half. Jalen Feliz was the Express' top player from the bench with eight points and eight boards.
The men's basketball remains on the road and next travels to D'Youville College for a 7 p.m. start on Friday, Nov. 15.
