Men's Basketball Drops First Conference Game Of The Season

On Saturday afternoon the Wells College men's basketball team hit the road for Reading PA to take on Penn State Berks in their first conference game of the season. Berks would edge this one out 82-81.

The Express offense came out firing with an early dunk from Ivan Oduro-Dompreh which helped the Express offense go 5-5 from the field in the first 5 minutes. After two three's from Terrance Clayton-Murphy, Wells College went up 10 points. The offense continued to roll with an and-1 layup from Ransel Rodrigues giving the Express a 32-17 advantage. With 7 minutes remaining in the first half, Jarek Feliz was hit with a technical foul. This proved to be a turning point for the entire game.  In the remaining 7 minutes, Berks would go on a 20-9 run the close the half and shrink the lead for Wells to 1 (44-43).

The first 10 minutes of the second half were as even as could be with both teams scoring sixteen points in the first 10 minutes. Berks was able to take one of their first leads of the game, 68-67, with 8 minutes left. Berks would continue on a 12-4 going up 80-71 and forcing a timeout by the Express. A couple of free throws and a three pointer from Terrance Clayton Murphy closed the gap for Wells tying it up 80-80 with 90 second left. A Berks jumper gave them a 2 point lead, then Ransel Rodriguez went to the line for the Wells College but was only able to sink 1 of 2 free throws. After getting a stop on the defensive end, the Express had two possessions to try and take the lead. One ended in an offensive foul, and the second, a last second deep 3, was not able to fall. Penn State Berks ended the Wells Express 3 game winning streak by overcoming a 16 point defecit.
