Women's Lacrosse Starts Season With Big Win

The Wells College women's lacrosse team opened its 2018 season with a convincing victory at Penn State Abington on Saturday, March 24. The Express scored 13 goals in the first half and went on to a 22-11 win over the Lions in a game played at Bryn Athyn College.

Mackenzie Maloney factored in 14 of the 22 Wells goals. She scored 11 goals and added three assists. It was a career-best goal and point-scoring performance for Maloney, and tied the single-game point record of 14 points set by Emily Lotkowictz with 12 goals and two assists on April 20, 2009 against Medaille.

The Express scored the first three goals of the game, and built leads of 6-1 and 10-2 in the first half. Penn State Abington closed to within 12-7 late in the first half, but Wells scored five of the next six goals and cruised to the victory.

Renee Bartosz scored six goals and had one assist. Savanah Connors added four goals. Julia Smith added one goal and Molly Doubet had one assist.

Connors led Wells with four caused turnovers 10 draw controls. Connors and Maloney each had four ground balls. Maloney and Smith had one caused turnover each.

Express goalkeeper Anna Bozeat made 10 saves.

The Express had a 19-16 advantage in draw controls.

Wells is 1-0 on the season, and 1-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. and Penn State Abington is 0-6 and 0-1 in the NEAC.
