Express Explode For 22 Goals in Record-Setting 6th Straight Win to Begin Season

On Friday night, at the Wells College Turf Complex, the Express women's lacrosse squad had to defend their unbeaten start to the 2024 season. Once again, they emerged victorious and exploded for 22 goals in a historic defeat of visiting Waynesburg.

Not only are the Express undefeated at 6-0, but they're also putting the hurt on opposing squads, defeating opponents by an average of 16 goals per game. In addition to the wide scoring margin, the Wells women are scoring 18.3 goals per game while only allowing their opponents to find the cage a stifling 2.3 times per game.

These solid numbers have come on the back of many outstanding performances from newcomers and veterans alike.

Logan Lomonaco is one such player. The first year phenom, fresh off of her AMCC Player of the Week honors two weeks ago, found the cage 6 times on Friday night, also tallying 2 assists. Through 6 games in a college uniform, Lomonaco leads the entire AMCC in goals and assists with 23 and 11 respectively.

Tied with Lomonaco atop the assists leaderboard is fellow AMCC Player of the Week honoree Lydia Thomas. Thomas was all over the turf on Friday, netting 3 goals and pumping in 4 assists to give her 19 and 11 so far this season. Thomas appeared on this week's edition of the Wells weekly Behind the Lines interview with ESPN Ithaca, you can find a link to her interview through the gameday program.

One of the things that Thomas touched upon during her interview was the Express' amazing work on the draw and how it's led them to their 6-0 start, an Express record for wins to start a season.

A major part of that draw success is first year HannahLamont who added 8 more draw controls to her staggering 58 total dc's on the season. Hannah has been a huge part of an Express unit that still ranks #1 in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse for draw control percentage with a .756 dc rate.

Lomonaco also did well on the draw, securing 5 draw controls, as well as talented draw specialist Olivia Garcia, who also tallied 5 draw controls in the win.

The Express move to 6-0, and will set their sights on the tough week ahead of them, a week in which they host SUNY Poly and Pre-season AMCC #1 Mount Aloysius. Those games will take place on Wednesday and Saturday respectively.
