Women's Lacrosse Falls To Houghton, 19-5

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Wells College women's lacrosse team posted a 19-5 loss to the Highlanders of Houghton College on Wednesday under the lights at Burke Field. With the loss, Wells falls to 1-2 overall on the year while the Highlanders even their overall record at 3-3.

Junior Andrea Gould (Fulton, N.Y.) led the Express with two goals on the evening while classmate Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.), sophomore Jessica Burbank (Stamford, Conn.) and senior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) each struck for one goal. Gould reeled in four ground balls to lead the Express while Fargnoli reigned in a team-best four draw controls.

Houghton was in complete control of the game from start to finish, holding overwhelming advantages in shots taken (38-to-15), ground balls (30-to-12) and successful clears. The Highlanders were nearly perfect in clear attempts (10-for-11) while Wells turned the ball over on 14 of their 20 clearances. In the opening 30 minutes alone, Wells was outshot 23-to-6 and committed 15 turnovers.

Chandler Jones posted 12 assists for Houghton on the evening, the third-most by any individual player in one game across NCAA Division III history dating back to 1982. Alyssa Strom scored four of her team-leading six goals in the first half as the hosts built up a 14-3 lead in the opening stanza. Jennifer Zacchigna scored four goals for Houghton and won six of their team's 15 total draws.

Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) had a solid game for the visitors, making 13 saves while facing 32 shots. Houghton backstop Kourtnie Franklin allowed four goals while making only five saves in the contest.

The Express return to action Saturday, Mar. 28 as they travel to Lancaster Bible College for a 1 p.m. North Eastern Athletic Conference contest.
