Wells Women's Lacrosse Outlasts SUNY Poly

The Wells College women's lacrosse team rallied from an early deficit and held off SUNY Poly in the second half to take a 13-11 win on Friday night, April 6 at the Wells Turf Field.

Savanah Connors led Wells with seven goals, and six of them were assisted by Renee Bartosz. Bartosz finished with eight points on two goals and six assists.

The Express trailed 2-0 and 3-1 in the game's opening minutes but answered with a 7-2 run to close the half and Wells owned an 8-5 advantage at halftime. Wells held the lead for the rest of the game.

Wells scored four goals in a row in the final 10 minutes of the first half. Madison Beriman scored unassisted to tie the game 5-5. Chloe Marcus converted a pass from Beriman to give Wells its first lead at 6-5. Savanah Connors and Julia Bashaw also scored before the half.

Three-straight Wells goals in a span of two and a half minutes in the second half gave the Express its largest lead at 11-6. All three were scored by Connors, assisted by Bartosz.

Goalkeeper Anna Bozeat made a season-best 12 saves. Julia Smith had six draw controls for Wells and Connors added five.

Wells improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. SUNY Poly is 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the NEAC.

A four-game homestand for the Express continues next weekend with a Saturday, April 14 game at 3 p.m. against Morrisville State College. The following day Wells hosts Cazenovia at 2 p.m.
