One-goal Setback For Wells Women's Lacrosse

The Wells College women's lacrosse team was in another close game on Sunday, April 23 at the Wells Turf Field and dropped an 11-10 contest against Medaille College. It was the fourth-straight one-goal game played by the Express.

Medaille improved to 11-3 on the season and the Mavericks have a 5-3 record in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Wells is 2-10 overall and 1-6 in the NEAC.

The teams traded goals for the majority of the first half as the score was tied 1-1, 2-2, and 3-3. Wells went on a three-goal run to take a 6-3 advantage and the Express led 6-4 at halftime.

Medaille scored five of the first six goals of the second half to build a 9-7 lead. Wells answered back with three of the next four to tie the game 10-10 with 7:49 remaining on a free-position shot by Renee Bartosz.

Medaille went ahead on a goal with 1:51 left, won the ensuing draw control, and ran out the clock to seal the one-goal win.

Mackenzie Maloney and Julia Smith scored three goals each for Wells, and Bartosz and Jessica Burbank each scored twice. Bartosz also had an assist. Maloney had five ground balls, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers. Savanna Yerdon had three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Anna Bozeat had 12 saves.

The next game for the Express is Friday, April 28 at home against Bryn Athyn College at 4 p.m.
