First-Year Duo Shines as Express Survive Tough Road Test at La Roche, Lamont Makes Wells History

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Express were tested by a tough Redhawks squad when they traveled to Pittsburgh on Saturday for their second AMCC clash. Because of their spotless start, the Wells women have been getting every teams' best shot, and the weekend showdown with La Roche was no different. Despite a couple early haymakers from a very solid Redhawks squad, the Express youth prevailed as they used their superior synergy to outscore La Roche 8-3 in the second half and pull away for a 17-11 win.

The first year duo of Logan Lomonaco and Hannah Lamont were unstoppable, each scoring 7 goals apiece and launching the Express to their 9th straight win to open the year. The two Wells playmakers have been sensational in their debut collegiate season.

Hannah Lamont in particular had an amazing and historical showing, as she secured 15 spectacular draw controls, shattering the Wells single-season record for draw controls in a season with at least 6 more games yet to play.

The previous record was held by Mackenzie Maloney with 78. Lamont surpassed that handedly in Saturday's showdown, ending the match with 93 total draw controls on the season. Lamont ranks 5th in all of Division III Women's Lacrosse for draw controls per game with 10.33, and has been the central pillar of an Express draw unit that places 7th in D III for draw controls per game with 18.00. That same Express draw unit also currently holds the #1 draw control win percentage in D III, sporting an absurd 74.7% draw win rate.

Logan Lomonaco has also been lights-out in her debut season, currently sitting 1st in the AMCC for goals AND assists with 34 and 16 respectively. Lomonaco is just 1 of the 6 AMCC Player of the Week winners that the Express have had in their 3-week sweep of the AMCC weekly honors.

The Express as a whole have absolutely taken over the AMCC leaderboards this season, boasting the top 4 goal-scorers, top 3 assist-getters, and top 5 points-leaders in the conference. Their blend of veteran leadership and phenomenal first year talent have propelled them to the top of the AMCC title race. A huge win against a tough Redhawks squad will hopefully give them some momentum heading into their final stretch of AMCC play.

The Express will welcome another AMCC foe to the turf next Tuesday when the Hilbert College Hawks visit Aurora for a midweek battle. La Roche will also visit Wells next week on Saturday in a matchup that will also double as the Express' senior day.
