Lamont Continues to Dominate on the Draw, Express Remain Unbeaten Through 10 Games
AURORA, NY - The Wells College faithful have been on cloud-9 to start the spring season, watching many of their teams have great success to begin their respective years. On Tuesday it was the Express women's lacrosse team that took advantage of a beautiful, cloudless evening to advance one further than 9, as they defeated the Hilbert College Hawks 22-0 to claim their 10th straight win and keep their record spotless at 10-0.
In an already historic season for the Express, both veteran seniors and fantastic underclassmen alike keep finding new records to overwrite, dominating the competition and cementing their legacy as some of Wells College's premier athletes.
One such player is first year draw extraordinaire Hannah Lamont.
The standout from Albany, NY has been adding new passages to the record books since her debut with the Express only 10 games ago. Despite this being her first collegiate season, Lamont has already proven to be a devastating threat on the draw, leading the nation in many draw control categories. Tuesday night was business as usual for Lamont, as she walked away with 10 draw controls, yet again leading an Express unit that took had a monopoly on draw controls all game, out-drawing Hilbert 17-5. With those 10 controls, Lamont now has 103 total draw controls on the season, a staggering amount that is seldom reached by even the best draw players in the country, let alone a player so early into her collegiate career.
Lamont, the reigning AMCC Offensive Player of the Week, also showed off her scoring power, netting 2 goals and 3 assists on the night.
On the end of those assists were fellow first years Logan Lomonaco and Jade Epp who each had great scoring nights in their own right. The talented first year duo each nabbed 5 goals, and rose even higher on the AMCC offensive leaderboards, a place where both Lomonaco and Epp have been heavily featured as of late.
Lomonaco and Epp also recorded 6 and 3 ground balls respectively, showcasing their aptitude for blanketing as much of the field as possible.
Speaking of blanketing - yet another first year had a massive impact on this complete Express showing. Taelor Cid picked up her first win of the year in goal, stopping 6 shots en route to the shutout. Cid has had an excellent first year despite splitting time with senior keeper Lauren Spiegel, as she ranks very highly in most of the conferences goalkeeping statistics.
For Spiegel, being able to rely on Cid to defend the cage allowed her to get out into the field where she recorded her first-ever goal as a member of the Express. Spiegel's score displayed a microchasm of the versatility that the Express bring to the table, a quality that makes them so dangerous in a variety of different scenarios.
With the win, the Express move to 3-0 in the AMCC, with a resounding win over each of their conference foes. The Wells women will begin their rematches with each of the respective AMCC competitors beginning with La Roche on Saturday in a matchup that will also serve as the Express' senior day.
