CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's lacrosse team posted a 16-8 loss to North Eastern Athletic Conference-rival Cazenovia College on Friday at Christakos Field. With the loss, Wells is eliminated from playoff contention after falling to 3-9 overall and to 2-6 within the conference. Cazenovia picked up the win and moves to 7-8 overall and to 5-4 within the league.

Wells was led by three goals from senior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.). Junior Andrea Gould (Fulton, N.Y.) scored twice while sophomore Jessica Burbank (Stamford, Conn.), junior Alaina Kelahan (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and junior Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) rounded out the tallies for the Express.

Fargnoli scored the first goal of the game for either side with only 5:58 expired on the game clock. Cazenovia, however, countered with a goal only 58 seconds later to tie the game. After trading goals twice more, Cazenovia took the lead for good with a Daejah Werntz goal that started a streak of six-straight goals for the host Wildcats.

Trailing 7-3 at the half, Wells quickly allowed back-to-back goals to Cazenovia in the second half. A free position attempt by Roberson was sent home with 24:28 remaining in regulation time, but the Wildcats racked up four more goals to capture a commanding 13-4 lead. Cazenovia went on to score twice more in the final minute of play, building a 16-8 lead as time expired.

Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) allowed 16 goals on 25 total shots on net, drawing the loss. Abigail Kortz made an impressive 15 saves for Cazenovia, allowing only eight Wells strikes.

The Express will honor Fargnoli, the team's lone graduating senior student-athlete, with a ceremony before the season finale on Saturday, Apr. 25 at 1 p.m. against Bryn Athyn.
