Women's Lacrosse Turned Back By SUNY Poly, 14-2

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's lacrosse team was defeated by the SUNY Polytechnic Institute by a 14-2 score Sunday afternoon at the South Athletic Field. Wells (2-8, 2-5 NEAC) has lost six-straight games while the Wildcats even their overall record at 6-6 and boosting their league mark to 4-3.

Senior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) and junior Amber Jordan (Auburn, N.Y.) each scored goal for Wells, who tied their season-low two goals in the contest. Sophomore Meredith Kadjeski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) had a solid game for the Express defensively, hauling in five ground balls while forcing her opponent into a season-best four turnovers.

The Wildcats controlled the entire first half of play, scoring nine goals in the first 30 minutes while outshooting the hosts 21-to-3. Wells struck first in the second half, however, as Fargnoli's goal came unassisted only 4:15 into the stanza. SUNY Poly, however, would score five of the game's last six goals, sandwiching a Jordan free position strike at 10:39 to round out the scoring.

SUNY Poly was led by Meghan Serota and Mariana Ames – each player scored five points of offense, with Serota scoring four goals and one assist and Ames striking twice and adding three assists. Three different players had three caused turnovers for the Wildcats, who won the ground ball battle (25-to-18) and the caused turnover game (18-to-10).

Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) made nine saves on 23 shots faced, drawing the loss. Cassidy Thompson made eight saves for SUNY Poly, earning the victory between the pipes.

The Express return to action Wednesday, Apr. 22 as they host the Hawks of Hilbert College at 4:30 p.m. on the South Athletic Field.
