Express Shine on Senior Day, Improve to 11-0 in Dismantling of La Roche

AURORA, NY - How sweet a Senior Day it was for the Express on a cold and rainy Saturday morning against a tough La Roche squad. Exactly a week ago, the Express traveled to Pittsburgh for a bout with the Redhawks in a game where La Roche only trailed by 1 at halftime. Today, on a day where the Express honored a spectacular senior class, there would be no revenge for the Redhawks, as the Wells women scored 10 goals in the first quarter en route to a 24-3 dismantling of the visitors.

In her last regular season home game, Express senior Lydia Thomas was outstanding. The veteran attacker weaved her way through a Redhawk defense that frustrated her team for large portions of the previous matchup. Thomas showed just how far she's come in her 4 years at Wells, going from never playing the sport of Lacrosse, to scoring 7 goals and getting 2 assists to net her team their 11th win.

Thomas wasn't the only senior who stood out on Senior Day. Fellow seniors Julia BarnwellIsabella Ciancio also got on the scoring sheet, netting 1 and 3 goals repectively. Grace Kahl, another Express senior also pitched in 2 assists in a game where the Express' excellent blend of senior leadership and underclassmen talent was on full display.

Wells' stellar first years were on fire as usual, with Logan Lomonaco notching 5 goals and 2 assists alongside fellow newcomer Jade Epp who logged 4 goals of her own.

First year Hannah Lamont recorded 2 goals and 3 assists, along with an outstanding 14 draw controls and 7 ground balls. Lamont's performance was stunning as she bolstered her already impressive numbers that have been showcased frequently on the NCAA Division III Leaderboards.

The Express also dominated on defense, only allowing 5 shots all game and allowing the senior/first year duo of Lauren Spiegel and Taelor Cid to increase their nationally recognized defensive prowess.

With the victory, the Express moved to 11-0 on the season and 4-0 in the AMCC. The win means that there is still more lacrosse to be played in Aurora this season, as the Express officially clinched a home matchup in the first round of the AMCC Women's Lacrosse Tournament. That match will be April 27th at a time yet to be determined.

The Express will look towards a long-awaited matchup with Bryn Athyn on Tuesday, which will feature a showdown between two teams with a combined 17-2 record. That match will begin at 4:30 PM.
