On Friday, Feburary 23rd, several representatives of the Wells College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and other Wells student-athletes joined SAAC Administrator and Head Field Hockey Coach Adair Milmoe to attend the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Winter Games.

The Opening Ceremonies were held at the Syracuse Oncenter and served as a celebration and time for fans and competitors to prepare for the upcoming events.

Adair Milmoe said that this was a great opportunity for Wells athletes to stand united in support of other athletes, especially those with intellectual disabilities. When asked about their experience and what it meant to attend this event, students had nothing but good things to say.

"We cheered on the athletes, giving them high-fives, handing out beaded necklaces, and waving pom-poms," said first-year field hockey player, Madilyn Babbs. "It allowed us here at Wells to represent our school and do something great for the community. I feel honored that I got to go to such an amazing event with supporting such an amazing cause… And I had a blast!"

"It felt good knowing we were there to support everyone. It brought me so much joy to be a part of something so special and to witness the excitement that everyone had," senior soccer player, Anna Bernatavitz, agreed.

Wells College Athletics hopes to continue its support for the Special Olympics and equal opportunities in athletics in other future events.
