HAWKS SOAR PAST EXPRESS

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Hartwick College Hawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 15-5 victory over the Wells College women's lacrosse team in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon in Oneonta, N.Y. The Hawks improve to 3-1 on the season while the Express fall to 0-1 on the year.

Courtney Grosser (Penfield, N.Y.) paced the Express with two goals and one assists. Sarah Allen (Clay, N.Y.) added two goals and Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif.) scored one goal to round out the scoring for Wells.

Brittany LaVaute led the Hawks with a game high four goals while Emily Jweid and Brittany McCabe eached scored three goals for Hartwick.

Jackie Monyihan scored less than four minutes into play starting a run of six straight goals to give Hartwick a 6-0 lead mid-way through the first half. Bass snapped the streak with an unassisted goal at the 15:50 mark, but Hartwick came back with four straight goals to close the half with a 10-1 lead.

Back-to-back goals just 46-seconds apart by Grosser and Allen cut the Hawks leads to seven 10-3 to open the second half. Allen helped the Express keep pace scoring on a free-position shot to keep the deficit at seven (11-4), but the Hawks tallied four four straight goals over a span of six minutes to open a 15-4 lead with 7:25 to play.

Gross talled the Express fifth and final goal on a free-position shot with 18-seconds remaining to reach the games final score of 15-5.

Hartwick held the advantage in shots on goal 22-15 and groundballs 19-13. Hartwick finished 2-2 on free-position opportunities while the Express converted on 2 of 6 free-position shots. The Hawks commited 20 turnovers to the Express 19 and finished 13-15 on the clear while the Express finished 7-16.

The Express return to action on Monday (3/19) when they take on Roberts Wesleyan at 4 p.m. in Aurora, N.Y.
