EXPRESS LOSE TO COBLESKILL IN OVERTIME

The Wells College men's basketball team fell 58-51 in overtime to the SUNY Cobleskill Fight Tigers on Saturday afternoon at the Farenthold Field House at Wells. The Express were led by junior Juan Pualino (Bronx, NY) who finished with 15 points and 19 rebounds and freshmen Andre Sawyers (Bronx, NY) who finished with 14 points and five rebounds. The Fighting Tigers were led by Andrei Lucas who finished with 23 points and seven rebounds.

Down by nine points headed into the second half, the Express would battle back holding the Fighting Tigers to just 15 points on 6-27 shooting. A lay-up and two free throws by Sawyers would give Wells their first lead of the half at 45-42 with just under five minutes to play. Taiquan Newkirk would trim the lead to one on a lay-up with 2:28 remaining and Corey Lewis would then tie the game at 45-45 on a free throw with a little over a minute remaining. Although both teams would have a chance to win the game in regulation, neither was able to get a clean shot off sending the game into overtime.

In overtime Lucas would hit two three pointers to give Cobleskill a two point lead with 2:37 remaining. The Fighting Tigers would never look back as they would go on to hit three of their last four free throws to seal the victory.

With the loss the Express fall to 9-11 while Cobleskill improves to 6-11 on the season. The Express will next face Keuka College on Tuesday, February 10th at 7:00 pm in Keuka.
