WELLS BASKETBALL NIPS D’YOUVILLE, WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT

A Juan Paulino (Bronx, NY) lay-up with four seconds left in the game would give the Wells College men's basketball  team a narrow 62-60 victory over D'Youville College on Tuesday night, at the Frances Tarlton Farenthold Fieldhouse, at Wells. Paulino led all scorers with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Andre Sawyers (Bronx, NY) chipped in with 15 points and seven rebounds.

The Express would find themselves down by as many as nine points in the second half, but a three-pointer by Matt Condy (Seaford, NY) with 1:20 left would tie the game at 57. Jarrell Williams (Bronx, NY) would hit one of two free throws, with 47 seconds left, to give the Express a 58-57 lead. A Paulino lay-up with 42 seconds left extended the lead to 60-57, but D'Youville would climb to within one with a lay-up by Charles Walker. After a series of turnovers by both teams Bryan Wight (Cazenovia, NY) would find an open Paulino underneath the basket for an easy lay-up and a 62-60 lead with four second left. D'Youville would turn the ball over with 2.6 seconds left sealing the victory for Wells.

The Express dominated the glass all night out rebounding D'Youville 41-23, including a 20-6 advantage on the offensive glass.

With the win Wells improves to 7-7 and has now won four straight and six of their last seven games. Tonight's match-up also marked the first home game in school history for the Wells basketball team.
