WELLS WOMEN’S LACROSSE FALLS IN SECOND HALF TO HARTWICK

Aurora, NY -The Wells College women's lacrosse team lost 16-11 to Hartwick College in non-conference action Thursday afternoon in Aurora. With the loss the Express fall to 5-7 on the year while Hartwick improves to 2-11.

Emily Lotkowictz (Skaneateles) led the Express offense with five goals and two assist while Liz Barclay (Laporte, PA) carried the Express defense in net finishing with 22 saves. Brittany LaVaute led the Hawks offense with four goals while Jen Kaye finished with 13 saves in net.

Down 3-2 with 18:09 left in the first half, the Express would score three straight unanswered goals by Kirsten Musciano (Boonton TWP, NJ), Stefanie Miller (Barton), and Lotkowictz to take a 5-3 lead. The Hawks would return the favor,  scoring two shorthanded goals with less than ten minutes remaining in the half to tie the game at 5-5.

The Express would go up 6-5 on a free possession shot by Stefanie Miller, but were unable to close out the Hawks in the half, as LaVaute would net a goal with 27-seconds remaining tying the game at 6-6 headed into the break.

With the score tied at 7-7 in the second half,  Hartwick would score three straight unanswered goals and five of the next six goals to take a commanding 12-8 lead with 18:34 remaining in the game. Although Ariella Taft (Cazenovia) would trim the lead to 12-9 on a pass from Lotkowictz, the Express would not get any closer as Hartwick would close out the game with four more goals en-route to the 16-11 victory.

The Express will close out their season at home against Bard on Sunday, April 26th, at 1:00 pm in Aurora.
