Fargnoli Earns NEAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Senior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) of the Wells College women's lacrosse team picked up North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors for her strong performance this past weekend, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Through only two games on the season, Fargnoli has scored a team-best eight goals and one assist for nine points (8-1=9) and has scooped up five ground balls and as many draw controls. Defensively, Fargnoli is tied for the team lead with four caused turnovers.
Against Penn St.-Abington on Saturday, Fargnoli scored two goals and led her team with four draw controls in a hotly-contested 15-8 loss to the Nittany Lions. On Sunday against the College of Saint Elizabeth, Fargnoli scored what proved to be the game-winning goal while posting two ground balls and one draw control.
Fargnoli exits play this past weekend tied for first in the conference with eight goals against league opponents. For her career, Fargnoli ranks eighth all-time in the program's NCAA Division III-era history (1987-present) in point scoring (66-14=80) and has played in 46 games during her career.
The Express return to action Wednesday, Mar. 25 as they face-off against Houghton in a 7 p.m. contest on the road.
